What is the minimum weight for air freight from Shenzhen to Singapore?

There is no strict minimum, but air freight consolidation becomes cost-effective from around 50 kg chargeable weight. For shipments under 50 kg, express courier services (DHL, FedEx, UPS) are usually faster and more economical. We handle everything from 50 kg up to full charter loads of several tonnes. For regular small-parcel flows above 200 kg/week, we can arrange dedicated consolidation pricing that undercuts courier rates significantly.

How is air freight charged — actual weight or volumetric?

Air freight is charged on the higher of actual gross weight (kg) or volumetric (dimensional) weight. Volumetric weight is calculated as: Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 6,000. For dense cargo like machinery parts, actual weight applies. For bulky light cargo like packaging foam, inflatable goods, or hollow plastic items, volumetric weight often applies. Always provide us with both gross weight and carton dimensions — we will calculate chargeable weight and identify consolidation opportunities to reduce cost.

Can you ship lithium batteries from Shenzhen to Singapore?

Yes, with the correct handling. Lithium batteries (UN3480 standalone) and lithium battery-powered devices (UN3481) are IATA Class 9 Dangerous Goods. Specific packaging (UN-approved), marking, labelling, and an airline-specific DG declaration are required. Not all airlines accept standalone lithium batteries — we route DG battery cargo on approved carriers. State of charge (SOC) must be ≤30% for standalone cells unless packed with equipment. We advise on the correct UN classification and handle all DG paperwork as standard for battery cargo.

Do you handle Singapore customs clearance?

Yes. Our Singapore-based partner is a licensed customs agent registered with Singapore Customs. We handle TradeNet permit declarations (IN Permit for most goods), GST payment (currently 9% on CIF value for goods above SGD 400), and clearance from Changi Airfreight Centre. For goods destined for Singapore FTZs (Jurong Port, Pasir Panjang, etc.) or transiting to third countries, different permit types apply — we advise accordingly. MAS-regulated goods (medical devices, food products) may need additional HSA or SFA approval prior to import.

What documents are required for air export from China?

Standard documents: Commercial Invoice (in English, with accurate USD values — undervaluation triggers GACC scrutiny), Packing List, and Shipper's Letter of Instruction. For regulated goods: export licence (for dual-use items), MSDS/SDS (for chemicals), phytosanitary certificate (organic materials), or CE/FCC declarations (electronics). We provide a commodity-specific document checklist at booking and chase suppliers on your behalf if documents are outstanding.

How does Singapore GST apply to air imports from China?

Since January 2023, Singapore's import GST threshold was lowered. All goods imported via air (including low-value parcels) are subject to 9% GST on the CIF value. GST-registered businesses can claim input tax credits. Goods imported under a Declaring Agent number for a GST-registered importer follow standard input tax accounting.
